winters can be hard on your vehicle and magnify existing problems
such as sluggish performance, rough idling, hard starts or... no
starts. To avoid such unpleasant situations, ask your technician
to make sure your car is ready for winter.
Aside from installing winter wiper blades, your technician will be able
to take a look at the battery, cables, spark plugs, wires, belts,
hoses, block heater and a number of other items.
Because oil thickens
at low temperatures, "winter grade" oil and
a new oil filter
every fall are a must.
The engine cooling system is also crucial
as it regulates the engine's temperature and
provides heat to keep you warm. A regular inspection of the radiator,
radiator cap,
heater core, fan motor and coolant level should ensure that your
engine stays cool – and that you stay warm.
An inspection of the rear defrost, door hinges, weather strips
and locks can also be
done at that time. Friendly tip: Lock de-icer and lock lubricant
are always a good thing to have – as long as you don't leave them
in the car! |
